Matching Groups with Venues
You will probably come under one of the following:-
- An already existing group with your own venue. Just get your group organiser to contact
Manor to arrange an event.
- An already existing group without your own venue. Your group organiser should contact
Manor to see if I already hold details of a suitable venue in your area. If so,
then you can be matched up. Otherwise you will need to find a venue and then contact
Manor again.
- An individual wanting to take part. Contact Manor with your own contact details and
choice of event. When there are a sufficient number of interested individuals you
can be matched up with a venue and a date arranged. Otherwise you may be able to
join up with a group already planning an event.
- An available venue wanting to hold an event. If you have a free room (of a suitable
size where applicable) and space in your calendar, then contact Manor with your details
to be put on a venues list. Once a group in your area makes an inquiry then the
venue and group can be matched up.
Venue considerations
Whether you already have your own venue or need to find one, consider the following:-
- Is the venue free or inexpensive?
- Is the venue available on your chosen date?
- Is there enough parking space?
- Is there safe and secure parking?
- Is there ease of access into building? (for host to get equipment in)
- Is there wheelchair access and facilities (if required)?
- If outdoors, does venue have enough flat, grassed, well cut, open area?
- Is the venue licensed or unlicensed? (this might be your first question)
Room considerations
Measurements may need to be made to check for adequate floor space, throwing distances,
table arrangements.
Are tables available (with or without protective coverings) for games?
If requiring large floor-based games (skittle alley, roll-up bowls carpet) the floor
surface needs to be of the same material and as level as possible. If unsure then
enquire.
Is there is a readily available pa system? (not strictly required)
N.B. dimensions of games are given on Games pages.
Access and Parking – Venues
Parking
Indoor events
Safe and secure parking should be available on site (well lit. CCTV surveillance
preferred). Temporary parking is required at access point to building for unloading
/ loading of games equipment.
Events held at private home require an off-road parking point as close as possible
to main access of building (this aids unloading / loading of equipment).
Venues
For Pub and Parlour games, downstairs rooms are preferable (ideally with no steps).
Entrance / exit points and access to these points should ideally be double-door
width (no narrower than 30”). Basically, if a wheelchair user can get into building
and to the events room with no trouble, then the same can be said for access when
laden with equipment.
