Where necessary, boards are treated prior to use to make the discs run smoother. Shove boards are given a light wiping with paraffin. The other boards have a light polishing. If it is felt they are running a little sluggish then your host will further treat them during the event once it is brought to his attention.
NB – the carrom board uses polish and not carrom powder (so no mess). The curling board similarly doesn’t require powder.
