pepys they're off - 2 hands pepys they're off - cards

After checking their dealt hand of cards players fill in their betting slips and conceal them for checking after the race. They then have to complete a set of the horse they have backed. To do this they, in turn, take cards from either the unused stack, the displayed discard pile or another player, before discarding cards to the discard pile.  Differently priced horses require lesser or more cards than others.  The winning odds are paid out after each completed hand.

Newmarket

(cards) – up to 8 players

newmarket - initial bets newmarket - a dealt hand

Players bet some of their allotted tokens on a choice of 4 horses for each hand (race).  The whole pack of four suits is dealt out to the players plus a dummy hand. Once a card is led, the suit must be followed in numerical sequence until no player can play a card. Then a fresh sequence is started.  The dummy hand ensures there will be cards missing from the runs of cards that the players must make.  As players empty their hands they are paid out.
